Rajdeep Choudhury

Rajdeep is a commercial litigation and arbitration lawyer. He appears in all High Courts in India, the Supreme Court of India and statutory tribunals. Rajdeep also appears in arbitrations governed by the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 (“the ACA”) and all the main rules, including those of the SIAC, HKIAC, ICC, LCIA, and UNCITRAL.

Rajdeep acts as independent arbitrator and has been admitted as Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

Rajdeep advises and represents all stakeholders in disputes arising in a range of industries, including oil and gas, power, mining, commodities, shipbuilding, transportation, and trade. This includes owners, contractors, consultants, insurers, operators, suppliers, lenders, and offtakers.

Rajdeep is also instructed on investigations relating to allegations of fraud, bribery and corruption, sanctions, money laundering and other misconduct.

  • Acted for an overseas EPC contractor in its dispute with an Indian thermal power producer in relation to contracts for supply and erection of steam turbine generator systems.
  • Acted for a hydro power producer in insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings in the National Company Law Tribunal, Delhi.
  • Acted for a wind power producer in ad hoc arbitration proceedings under the ACA seated in India arising out of a procurement contract with a wind turbine manufacturer.
  • Acted for Indian and Dutch companies in multiple international commercial arbitrations seated in London, U.K. and Dubai under the UNCITRAL arbitral rules arising out of oil and gas exploration and production project and oil pipeline project in Africa.
  • Acted for a Malaysian-Singaporean engineering consortium in ad hoc arbitration proceedings under the ACA seated in India against an Indian exploration company arising out of an EPC contract for an offshore wellhead platform located in the Exclusive Economic Zone of India.
  • Acted for an Indian solar power producer in an international commercial arbitration seated in Singapore under the rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (“the SIAC”) arising out of a procurement contract with a manufacturer of solar PV modules.
  • Acted for an Indo-Korean joint venture in ad hoc arbitration proceedings under the ACA seated in India arising out of contracts for construction of strategic oil reserve storage caverns in India.
  • Advised a European oil and gas exploration and production company in relation to disputes with the Government of India and venture partners arising out of a production sharing contract and a joint operating agreement for onshore fields in India.

Ranjit Prakash Chief Eexecutive
Ranjit founded Archeus Law in October 2016. He has over 28 years of experience in the legal profession. Before launching Archeus Law, Ranjit headed the Dispute Resolution, Project Advisory, and Corporate Law Practice verticals in various reputed law firms in India. Ranjit was also amongst one of the founding senior partners at HSA Advocates. He regularly speaks at forums and seminars and has been known to author papers and articles on the areas of Energy, Infrastructure, Arbitration, Regulatory, and Policy.
Mr. Prakash advises some of the largest infrastructure and energy projects in India. He also advises some of the largest corporates in the Indian market and represents major international players with their interests in the Indian energy, mining, infrastructure, and dispute space. Ranjit has also been currently advising several of the firm’s clients on domestic and international arbitration-related matters, including international arbitrations before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
  • Represented a major Chinese state owned entity in relation to an industrial accident which arose after the collapse of a chimney at a mega power plant project site in Chhattisgarh
  • Represented Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited (GFL) on a high stakes arbitration proceeding in the wind energy sector in India against Vestas
  • Represented Moser Baer Electric Power Limited in an arbitration proceeding before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) with respect to a dispute arising out of an agreement entered for development of a 63 MW Hydro Power Project
  • Represented Visa Steel Limited in defending arbitration proceedings before London Court of International Arbitration, London.
  • Represented China National Coal Group Corporation, Beijing, PR China, one of the leading coal producers in the world, in an international commercial arbitration in India against National Highways Authority of India [NHAI] with respect to a highways project [one of the package of the Golden Quadrilateral Project in India] involving a claim of US $ 44.5 million by NHAI.
  • Represented Sinohydro Corporation, in an international commercial arbitration along with its Indian sub contractor against National Highways Authority of India in a highways project in Haldia, West Bengal, India, involving a claim of US $ 25.5 million.
  • Represented Jogbani Highways Pvt. Ltd., in a commercial arbitration against National Highways Authority of India with respect to a highways project, involving claims of approximately INR 75 crores. Successfully obtained an Injunction against invocation of the BGs and subsequently an Award awarding the clients substantial claims in their favour.
  • Represented Bihar State Road Development Corporation in defending a commercial arbitration against a private contractor involving claims of around INR 700 Crores.
  • Represented Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam, in defending a commercial arbitration against the Concessionaire with respect to a Bridge construction project in the state of Bihar, involving a claim of approximately INR 650 Crores.
  • Represented Shenzhen Shandong Nuclear Power Construction Company Limited, a leading Chinese state owned infrastructure company, in an international commercial arbitration against a major Indian power plant developer, involving a claim of US $ 1.25 billion.
  • Represented SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation, in an international commercial arbitration seated at Singapore against a major Indian power plant developer with respect to a 3×660 MW power plant project in the state of Punjab, India, involving a claim of over US $ 600 million.

Arun Mani
Arun is a Partner with Archeus Law and heads the firm’s Project Advisory and Infrastructure practice. Arun has a professional experience of more than 13 years. Previously, Arun was a Partner with HSA Advocates in their Infrastructure, Project Advisory, and Dispute Resolution team. Before that, he was a junior lawyer in the chambers of Mr. C.S. Vaidyanathan, Senior Advocate (former Additional Solicitor General of India).
At Archeus, Arun has been actively involved with diverse assignments in the infrastructure sector, in particular, dealing with EPC Contract Management and Project Advisory, legal and commercial due diligence of PPP transactions, and bid process management. He holds substantial experience in the contract management and project advisory space and regularly advises on various facets of projects including but not limited to investments and structuring, project financing, drafting, and review of EPC contracts and other project documents. He advises all participants including governments, lenders, developers, and contractors, in energy and infrastructure transactions, urban infrastructure, and real estate development.

Anshuman Pande
Anshuman is a Partner at Archeus Law and has been with the firm since its inception. He previously held a position at HAS Advocates as part of the Infrastructure and Dispute Resolution team. Before that, he worked at S.N. Gupta & Associates as part of their corporate litigation team in New Delhi. Earlier he spent 7 years in HSA Advocates.
Mr. Pande is primarily involved in matters adhering to project management, corporate/commercial transactions, and dispute resolution matters in the field of mining and infrastructure projects – predominantly power projects and has also been involved in matters regarding environmental laws, CDM, and renewable energy. Anshuman has also been a part of transactions for the acquisition of infrastructure and mining assets (both domestic and international), drafting and vetting of various agreements, and general advisory services for compliance requirements in the field of industrial, labour, and environmental laws since 2009.
